OK. I mentioned before in another topic a book named Flowers in the Attic, so now I want to talk about it and its movie remake.
First of all, I saw the movie first. I didn't think the movie was that shocking, apart from the...

...shocking portrayal of cruelty to children, especially when the grandmother hits the young boy and cuts off Cathy's hair by force. In the book though I think it's a lot more shocking, especially since you're using your own imagination. The grandmother in the book is crazy! Instead of cutting it off, she starves them until Cathy's own brother will cut it off! He refuses of course, so using hot tar to get rid of the girl's hair? Crazy!
I felt the book was a great read, although the teratophilia and also the ease in which she forgives her brother for rape is a little odd, but then again, they were locked together for over two years.
I implore anyone to read this book by Virginia Andrews; the ending is so bleak in the book though, more distressing than Cathy murdering her mother at the end of the film. _________________ Éstoy. |
